Zack Snyder never backs away from giving off controversial remarks. The director of the ‘Rebel Moon’, a Netflix movie with 21 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 5.6 on Imdb, shared his opinions on how his movie deserves to be counted among the billion dollar movies.
He shared the viewership data of Rebel Moon to be around 80-90 million. He assumed two viewers per screening and multiplied the ticket price at $10. The sum came out to be at $1,600,000,000.
He did not stop here but compared Rebel Moon with Barbie’s box office collection saying that if it was released in theaters, it would have been a bigger success.
This logic seems as far fetched as Zack’s and Netflix’s hope to deliver quality storytelling via the Rebel Moon movie series. It got thrashed by fans and critics alike, still a sequel is in the works. This perfectly calls out Netflix’s hypocrisy to cancel several of the fan favourite shows just after a single season or when only the final season is left. But, it’s ready to invest in a movie series like Rebel Moon.
Ever since Zack left DCEU prior to the original ‘Justice League’ he was making headlines to release his cut of the movie dubbed as the ‘Snyder Cut’.
His last movie ‘Army of The Dead’ released on Netflix and was a big hit. Critically it did okayish but given it was released during the lockdown, the viewership skyrocketed.
This Barbie comment has received scrutiny from everyone given one could watch tons of movie on Netflix for the price of one movie ticket and that this comparison is just not equal.
Everything aside, Barbienheimer made a mark in the history of cinema that would be remembered for years to come.
