The latest romantic blockbuster, “Premalu,” has been doing really well at the box office. It’s close to reaching Rs 100 crore worldwide. Because it’s doing so well in theaters, the makers decided not to release it on OTT yet.
Normally, Malayalam movies come online after being in theaters for about 28 days. But “Premalu” is changing that prevalent trend.
It came out in Malayalam more than a month ago and is still drawing audiences to theaters. The Telugu version just came out and it’s doing okay. The Tamil version will be out soon.
Rumors say that Disney+Hotstar has bought the rights to “Premalu.” Disney has getting a lot of Malayalam movies lately. Some other recent hits from Malayalam cinema are also on Disney+Hotstar.
Typically, new Malayalam releases make their OTT debut after approximately four weeks in theaters. However, there have been exceptions to this pattern. For instance, Mammootty’s Kannur Squad and Kaathal: The Core opted for an exclusive cinema run of over seven weeks before transitioning to streaming platforms.
Currently, there is no definitive information available regarding Premalu’s OTT release date. The producers are maintaining secrecy around the streaming details, mindful of the potential impact on the film’s impressive box office performance.
