In probably one of the breakthrough steps, Telugu film Alias Janaki, which is set to release July 26 worldwide, will simultaneously be released online on Zingreel, a cinema watching website. Audiences who don’t have access to the film can watch the film online at their convenience for less than $2.
Producer Neelima Tirumalasetti believes this will be a good revenue model for low-budget films that have limited theatrical release to have a strong revenue model. She also believes this will stop piracy to some extent and hopes that audiences will appreciate this move.
Telugu industry is monopolized by few producers and distributors and I believe this will be an effective step for smaller films such as Alias Janaki. The film features Chiranjeevi’s cousin Rahul Venkat and Anisha Ambrose in lead roles.
