The trend of re-releasing blockbuster films gained huge momentum after Mahesh Babu’s Pokiri made unprecedented numbers on its theatrical re-release. Following that, nearly a hundred vintage Telugu films have been brought back to theatres.
However, this trend has been overused and exploited for a long time by some forces. Ironically, now Mahesh Babu’s own fans are feeling the negative effects.
In the case of the upcoming Athadu re-release, the situation looks quite one-sided. Though it was expected to create excitement on Mahesh Babu’s birthday, this cult classic is struggling to generate the right buzz.
Let us not focus on the inflated records often reported to satisfy fan egos. Even in terms of general anticipation, there is little enthusiasm for this Mahesh Babu classic.
Athadu is truly a hallmark film that should have done well on its theatre comeback. But due to the excessive exploitation of re-releases, this film by Mahesh Babu and Trivikram is failing to attract much interest from the audience.
Even fans are divided on the issue. A golden film with perfect timing has sadly not received the attention it deserves.
Still, Athadu remains a great film to watch in theatres for those who missed it earlier. The problem is many viewers have already seen it multiple times on TV, making it harder to build hype for the theatrical re-release now.
