Taapsee Pannu is no stranger to Telugu audience. The actress was recently seen in Disney Hotstar original film, Annabelle Sethupathi. Now, she is awaiting the release of Rashmi Rocket which is set to premiere on Zee5 on 15th October.
Rashmi Rocket is a sports drama vaguely based on Indian female athletes Dutee Chand, and Santhi Sounderajan, who were ostracised and banned from track and field events after controversially failing in the gender verification test.
Speaking about the film, Taapsee says “I found the story from a writer named Nanda Periyasamy in Chennai. I felt a story like this needs to be presented on a big canvas so that it reaches to a wide section of the audience. I was associated with the project right from the scripting stage.”
About the trolls which said Taapsee looked like a male athlete in the recently released poster of the film, Tapsee says she feels these are compliments as they validate her efforts to build a masculine physique.
“I was lucky not have gone through what these female athletes went through. I cannot imagine the heartbreak they would have gone through after being called transgender and eunuch. I had to work extra hard to get into the skin of the character and it is a special one for me,” she concludes.
