Bad Trend By Big Banner: Film On OTT In 2 Weeks!

Rebel OTT

‘Premalu’ fame Mamitha Baiju’s latest Tamil film, “Rebel,” with GV Prakash Kumar, turned out to be an utter flop in theaters.

What’s shocking is the fact that “Rebel” is already streaming on Amazon Prime Video in Tamil and Telugu with English subtitles just two weeks after it was in theaters.

Many cinephiles are jolted by this early release and worry it is such a bad trend. While some movies like “Premalu” and “Manjummel Boys” are delaying their OTT streaming dates to support theaters, “Rebel” is already online after just two weeks.

This seems like a bad trend to discourage audiences from coming to the theaters. Why would any viewer spend 300 bucks to watch a film in theaters when it would be available within 10-15 days on OTT for free?

What’s even more surprising is that “Rebel” is made by a big production company, Studio Green. Such production houses are responsible for ruining the theater business.

“Rebel” tells the story of a Tamil student facing problems from a political group in Kerala. It was written and directed by Nikesh RS, and GV Prakash did the music.
