This week’s releases, Bimbisara and Sita Ramam, have changed the mood of the Tollywood film industry. The exhibitors are jubilant with the fantastic response both films are garnering at the box office in India and overseas.
Bimbisara was off to a flyer on Friday in the Telugu states and continued the momentum on Saturday as well. Trade analysts say Bimbisara will enter into the profit zone or break even in most areas on Sunday itself.
Sita Ramam was off to a slow start on Friday in the Telugu states but picked up tremendously on Saturday due to positive word of mouth. In most areas, the second-day collections improved by 30-40%. If reports are to be believed, then Sunday is going to be its biggest day.
In the US, Sita Ramam has grossed around $400K in its first two days (including premieres) and will cross $500K by Sunday.
Bimbisara is also doing well, but it has a limited number of shows because of the lack of screens. It has collected around $250K in its first two days, and Sunday will also be decent.
The positive response to Bimibisara and Sita Ramam has infused much-needed oxygen into the dying Tollywood industry. Let’s hope the momentum continues with Macherla Niyojaka Vargam and Karthikeya 2 in the coming week.
