Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files was the unexpected blockbuster of the year. When Bollywood films were failing left, right, and center, this film took the whole country by storm. Many right-wingers promoted it personally, booked halls, and distributed tickets freely to the people.
And with September being the month when India’s Film Federation (FFI) chooses a film to represent India at the Oscars, a section of people on social media is hoping that The Kashmir Files gets selected. But everyone knows that SS Rajamouli’s RRR is the front runner this year.
Vivek Agnihotri is considered to be an eccentric person with an aggressive mood. Recently, when he was asked if he was expecting the Oscar nomination for The Kashmir Files, he shrugged his shoulders and said, “I don’t know. It’s up to the jury. They have to decide.” He added, “I am in Goa right now, writing my next film’s script. So honestly, I am not even bothered.”
It looks like he has already given up on the nomination and has moved on to his next projects, a film on Vaccines and The Delhi Files.
Many in the film industry want RRR to be sent to the Oscars and not The Kashmir Files. RRR is a film that genuinely has a chance to make an impact at the Oscars for the kind of appreciation it got from various quarters of the world after its OTT premiere on Netflix.
On the other hand, the Kashmir Files will be rubbed off as an agenda film that propagates nothing but hate against a particular community.
