Telugu directors do not frequently move to Bollywood and make back-to-back films. However, when they do attempt it, they have mostly created a good impact.
Recently, Gopichand Malineni made such an attempt and delivered a decent result with his very first Bollywood film. His film Jaat, despite starring an outdated and faded star like Sunny Deol, collected close to 85 crores net. He created goodwill among the Bollywood audience with his mass direction. Many other directors since then have tried to follow a similar path, but most of those projects failed to materialize. Several films generated some initial buzz but did not progress beyond the discussion stage.
In this situation, fresh reports suggest that another Tollywood director is now considering a Bollywood move. After the disastrous Akhanda 2, there is a big question mark over what Boyapati Srinu will do next. Although there were rumors about a film with Allu Arjun, that plan did not move forward because Allu Arjun became busy with projects under Atlee and Lokesh Kanagaraj. Also, after the Akhanda 2 debacle, it would be foolish to expect Allu Arjun doing a film with Boyapati.
Because of this, industry talk suggests that Boyapati is now looking toward Bollywood for his next hero. In that context, reports say he is planning to meet Ranveer Singh, who recently delivered the mega blockbuster Dhurandhar. There is also curiosity about how Boyapati will narrate a story to Ranveer, especially since Boyapati’s English and Hindi communication is often considered to be slightly weak.
Interestingly, Ranveer Singh has wanted to work with a Telugu director for many years. At one point, he nearly announced a film with Prasanth Varma. The project even reached the look test and poster shoot stage but later got shelved at the last minute due to creative differences.
Now, if Ranveer teams up with Boyapati, whose films are known for high voltage and logic defying action, the result could be very different. Industry watchers are eager to see what story Boyapati presents, how he explains it, and whether he can convince Ranveer Singh to come on board.
