Rajinikanth RGV

Ram Gopal Varma, known for films like Company, Satya, and Sarkar, has once again stirred debate with his take on stardom versus acting.

In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, RGV argued that being a star and being an actor are two completely different things.

He stated that massive stars like Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan may not necessarily be great actors, as they are viewed as “demigods.”

RGV questioned whether Rajinikanth could exist “without slow motion,” emphasizing that fans enjoy watching him walk in slow motion for half a film without expecting anything more.

He also remarked that a star playing a normal character can often be disappointing for the audience.

He drew a comparison, saying, “Is Rajinikanth a good actor? I don’t know. I don’t think Rajinikanth can do a Bhikhu Mhatre from Satya.”

Rajinikanth fans are taking their ire on RGV on social media for making such statements.

The filmmaker also recalled a scene in one of Amitabh Bachchan’s films where the character had a stomach ache. He admitted he “hated that scene” because audiences don’t want to see stars like Bachchan in such roles. “Demigods can’t become characters,” he remarked.
