Prabhas’s Adipurush has released in theaters today and it has opened to blockbuster collections on the opening day. The advance bookings were rock solid for the film and it is on course to set a pretty substantial day 1 figure.
In the meantime, a section of social media users, mainly the Tamil and Malayalam folk have been crying foul on Adipurush. They’re sharing photos and videos from parts of the film on social media and are belittling the film.
Well, for a film of Adipurush’s scale and it’s effort to present Ramayan in a modernised fashion, there is scope for trolling. The same is happening with Adipurush now and that’s on expected lines.
But what the Tamil folk needs to note here is that Adipurush is still a much bigger project than anything that the Tamil cinema industry can produce. The kind of openings and mass hysteria created by Adipurush is like an unfulfilled dream for Tamils.
Tamil films cant even cross the border and do well outside Tamil Nadu. These fans are all hyped about their one or two heroes who keep doing routine mass masala films that don’t even qualify for pan Indian branding, let alone aspiring pan India hype like Adipurush.
This is nothing but sheer heartburn from the Tamil folk. They can’t even dream of a Tamil film being executed on this scale and the best they can do is cry foul when others make it. This is exactly what they’re doing with Adipurush now.
The quality of Adipurush might be debated, but wat Tamil folk needs to keep in mind is that even matching this standard is a dream for them. Period.
