Champion, which hit theatres yesterday amid massive expectations, has opened to a largely positive response from audiences. Mounted on a grand scale, the film carried strong pre-release buzz, thanks to the impressive track record of its production house.
On its opening day, Champion clocked a worldwide gross of Rs 4.5 crore, an impressive and even humongous start for a young hero like Roshan. What’s more encouraging is the exceptionally strong advance bookings for day two, clearly pointing towards positive word of mouth.
While a section of critics may have expected more especially considering the banner’s history of delivering critically acclaimed films the film stands as a decent and well-crafted commercial outing. In contrast to the critical discourse, audience reception has been largely favourable. Despite being a wide release and not positioned as a small or niche film, Champion is holding up remarkably well across theatres, indicating steady footfalls and genuine audience interest.
The biggest highlight, however, is the overwhelming appreciation for Roshan. His performance, screen presence, and overall appeal have clearly struck a chord with moviegoers. With Champion, he has laid a solid foundation for his career.
With a long weekend followed by the New Year advantage, Champion is well-placed to witness a further boost in collections and enjoy a healthy run at the box office.
