Recently, popular TV actor known as ETV Prabhakar found himself in an unfortunate situation because of his son Chandrahas. During the pre-release event of Chandrahass’ film Barabar Premistha, Chandrahas sang a song filled with vulgar words on stage. That incident went viral very quickly and triggered brutal trolling and backlash. Many people did not stop with slamming Chandrahas alone. They even questioned Prabhakar’s upbringing and parenting.
Things became more troublesome when Chandrahas released another video trying to justify his use of abusive language instead of apologizing. This step backfired badly and turned the entire situation into a subject of ridicule. The controversy completely overshadowed the film.
After this episode, Barabar Premistha released quietly, and very few people even noticed its release. A video of Chandrahass crying outside a theatre later went viral, where he appeared emotionally broken. Chandrahas was seen admitting that he thought his actions were bold and attention grabbing but later realized that they backfired and harmed his film badly.
Only after this did Prabhakar finally respond publicly. In a video statement, he said that he always taught his son good values and that using abusive language is absolutely wrong. However, he also pointed out that people bashing his son were themselves using even worse language, which he felt was not healthy for society. Prabhakar openly apologized without conditions for his son’s behavior and assured that he would ensure such incidents never happen again. He also asked people not to judge or question his parenting based on one incident.
However, many feel that this response came far too late. By the time Prabhakar spoke, the damage was already done. The film had released with almost no buzz. Major websites did not publish reviews, and several shows were canceled due to a lack of audience. In many regions of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the film failed to register even minimum openings.
This turned into the second major setback for Chandrahas after his earlier film Ramnagar Bunny was rejected by audiences last year. Many initially believed that controversy would help Chandrahass gain attention and publicity. Instead, it worked against him.
If Chandrahas does not control himself and focus only on meaningful, film related publicity, people may stop taking him seriously as a hero and he may remain meme material. Now, it remains to be seen how Prabhakar will manage this damage and guide his son back onto a sensible path.
