As the fight over the “Percentage System” gets uglier in Telangana, many are asking: where is the industry’s “Big Brother”? Historically, Chiranjeevi has always stepped in to settle disputes between producers and exhibitors, but this time, his silence is deafening.
The industry is currently split into two stubborn camps. On one side, big names like Dil Raju and Suresh Babu are supporting the exhibitors, arguing that a revenue-sharing model is the only way to keep single screens alive. On the other side, the Active Producers Guild, led by Mythri Movie Makers, has flatly rejected the idea, even threatening to pull their movies from theaters that demand a percentage.
Chiranjeevi’s silence might be a tactical move. With his own film Vishwambhara coming soon, taking a side could hurt his movie’s release. Also, this leaves his sons Peddi in a very tight spot. Without a mediator to broker a deal, the film faces a massive risk of theater shutdowns in the Nizam area.
