Did Pooja Hegde Take a Dig on Akshay & Salman?

Pooja Hegde’s recent comments during her Telugu media interaction are gaining praise for offering a grounded perspective on the difference between social media fame and real-world box office success.

While promoting her upcoming film Retro with Suriya, she addressed the gap between online popularity and actual crowd-pulling power at the box office.

With nearly 30 million followers on Instagram, Pooja pointed out, “That doesn’t mean I draw 30 million footfalls at the box office. There are superstars with just 5 million followers who are massive crowd-pullers.”

Her point was clear — genuine connection with the public matters more than inflated online numbers.

This sparked speculation among netizens that she may have subtly criticized stars like Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan. Despite having massive Instagram followings of 60-70 million, both actors have struggled to generate strong box office openings recently.

Films like Sikandar, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Sky Force, Sarfira, Mission Raniganj, and many others didn’t even get a respectable opening, showing that follower count doesn’t always translate into ticket sales.

What Pooja said highlights a growing industry reality — social media metrics can often be misleading. Buying a movie ticket for 300 bucks and showing up at a theatre is a very different kind of commitment than hitting a “follow” button.

Whether it was a calculated dig or an honest industry observation, Pooja’s comments have certainly hit the right chord.
