The combination of Mahesh Babu and Trivikram is a dream come true for any music composer. Classic albums like Athadu and Khaleja have come in their combination. Thaman has got the opportunity with Gunturkaaram. Forget about matching that, his work is easily not even a pale shadow of the previous albums or the scores.
Mahesh Babu fans always did not like this combination. Thaman made slay comments on Sarileru Neekevvaru at Ala Vaikuntapurramuloo Success Meet way back in 2020. Even then, Mahesh gave him an opportunity with Sarkaru Vaari Paata and it was a big disappointment.

There was pressure again from fans not to repeat Thaman, but the Ala Vaikuntapurramuloo combination value ensured another chance for Thaman but he failed to make it count. There were issues right from the start.
There were reports that Mahesh was adamant about having Thaman and Pooja Hegde removed. The makers could remove Pooja but not Thaman.

Not many know that the team even had a sitting with Hesham but the latter was not a fit for the mass songs and someone like Anirudh could not deliver in time for Sankranthi release. By now, we all realize how important Sankranthi release is for the film.
Thaman is a star music director. If anyone faces the issue of being removed from a hyped star project, we would expect him to perform better to prove everyone wrong. But what had happened in Gunturkaaram is beyond comprehension.

There are stories of how song releases got delayed, one song omitted from the film (because Mahesh scrapped it at the last minute), and the backlash when Craving song released. Gunturkaaram is a music director’s worst humiliation.
Coming to the songs, except for Kurchi Madathapetti, nothing worked. Even this song also worked because of the controversy around it, and many felt a song like this should not be in a star like Mahesh’s film.
The background score is even forgettable. There is not even a single scene where we feel the score enhanced or at least complimented the scene. At places, it is too loud without any sync to the proceedings. At one place, one can not miss the literal rip-off of Jailer background score!
Inspiring/copying whatever of international films is acceptable to some extent. To rehash a score from a recent popular blockbuster is something only Thaman can explain and tragedy is that Trivikram chose to ignore it.
It is so unprofessional of Thaman to deliver a print with sound-mixing issues for overseas. U.S. audience paid $28 for the premiere, and they expect minimum quality. There was unanimous negative feedback on Thaman’s work right from the first U.S. premieres; it is that poor. Even the trailer had sound-mixing issues when played on TV and other devices.
Gunturkaaram is a classic case of Thaman misusing the opportunities. Probably, the value of a chance has become less for him due to his busy schedules and stardom. Sad that the combination (Trivikram and Thaman) that delivered one of the finest quality music in recent times ended up like this.
