Gandhari: Netflix Using Lust Stories 3 as a Diversion?

There have been recent claims that Netflix is trying to divert attention from its latest release, Gandhari, by heavily promoting Lust Stories 3. The speculation comes after social media users criticised Taapsee Pannu’s action thriller. Many called it a messy and over-the-top watch. In fact, some of them even called out the actress by saying that she needs to learn acting again.

Gandhari, which premiered on Netflix on September 3, stars Taapsee Pannu as Bani, a mother who sets out to rescue her kidnapped daughter. Directed by Devashish Makhija and written and produced by Kanika Dhillon, the film received a lot of backlash after its release. No good story or unique characters, and a completely predictable climax.

This, according to many, explains Netflix’s decision to push Lust Stories 3 so soon after Gandhari. Reportedly, the platform has not publicly shared official viewership numbers for the latter. There have been allegations that Gandhari’s cast and producer are promoting it as a major success despite the criticism. These claims remain unverified.

Meanwhile, Lust Stories 3 is scheduled to premiere on September 18. The anthology brings together Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj, with a cast including Konkona Sen Sharma, Radhika Apte, Aditi Rao Hydari, Radhika Madan, Vijay Varma, Ali Fazal and Siddharth.

The earlier two installments were a huge hit, but it is yet to be seen whether the third version can meet the expectations of the viewers again.
