February BO: Dead Air Killing Tollywood Again?

February Tollywood box office slump

The Telugu audience has made its expectations very clear. People are stepping into theatres only for strong, well made content. Average or poorly executed films are no longer drawing crowds.

At present, the Telugu box office is going through a dry phase. February has turned into a weak month for Tollywood in terms of footfalls and revenue. Theatres are witnessing low occupancy across the state.

The month began with the release of Euphoria, which failed to make an impact. The film did not find traction at ticket counters. Even veteran filmmaker Gunasekar could not pull audiences in large numbers.

This was followed by Couple Friendly and Funky, which initially looked promising. However, both films are struggling to attract viewers. The expected buzz has not translated into box office numbers.

Couple Friendly is in a slightly better position. Decent reviews helped it gain some attention. Still, the collections remain modest.

On the other hand, Vishwak Sen’s Funky was rejected outright. The film opened poorly and failed to build momentum. Audience interest dropped quickly.

February has traditionally been a dull month for Telugu cinema. This year is proving no different. Moviegoers are staying away from theatres despite multiple releases.

The Sankranti releases enjoyed a decent run at the box office. Many hoped that momentum would continue into February. Instead, Tollywood is facing another phase of dead air.
