Director Srinu Vaitla is preparing for another comeback attempt with George Krish, starring Sharwanand in the lead. After a long period of disappointing films, this project has become an important one for both the director and the hero.
According to the latest industry buzz, Raveena Tandon has been roped in to play a key role in the film. She is reportedly playing a police officer, adding some star value to the supporting cast. If confirmed, this will mark another significant South Indian project for the veteran actress after KGF.
The film’s shooting is also progressing as planned.
The first schedule has been completed, while the second schedule is expected to begin in the second week of August. Reports also suggest that Bhagyashri Borse has been finalized as the female lead, although the makers are yet to make an official announcement. The initial schedule is said to focus on the romantic portions between Sharwanand and Bhagyashri.
The makers are reportedly eyeing a Sankranti release, though that will depend on how quickly the shoot progresses.
More than anything, George Krish is a crucial film for Srinu Vaitla.
Once regarded as one of Telugu cinema’s most successful commercial directors with blockbusters like Dhee, Ready, King, Dookudu, and Baadshah, Srinu Vaitla has struggled to recreate that magic over the last decade. His recent film Viswam, starring Gopichand, ended up as a flop despite not being as bad as some of his previous films.
Sharwanand is also looking for a strong commercial success. He scored a big hit this year with Nari Nari Naduma Murari, but his next project, Biker, failed at the box office. So, both the actor and the director have something significant riding on this project.
The biggest question now is whether Srinu Vaitla can reinvent himself for today’s audience.
Telugu cinema has changed dramatically since his peak years. The comedy formula and screenplay style that once made him one of the industry’s most bankable directors no longer guarantee success. If George Krish manages to retain Vaitla’s entertainment strengths while adapting to modern audience tastes, it could become an important comeback for him.
