Sharwanand is preparing to collaborate with director Srinu Vaitla for an upcoming film tentatively titled George Krish. The industry is closely watching this project because it brings together an actor trying to maintain momentum after a recent success and a director desperately attempting to revive his fading career in Telugu cinema.
According to the latest industry buzz, the makers are currently finalizing the female lead for the film. Earlier reports suggested that Mamitha Baiju had been locked for the heroine’s role. However, fresh reports now indicate that the team is seriously considering Couple Friendly fame Manasa Varanasi instead. An official confirmation from the production team is still awaited.
The film carries major importance for director Srinu Vaitla, whose career has struggled badly over the last decade. After delivering a blockbuster like Dookudu in 2011, the director failed to maintain consistency and went through a long streak of box office disasters. Many industry observers now openly consider his style outdated and irrelevant to current audience preferences.
Most recently, Srinu Vaitla directed the action-comedy Viswam starring Gopichand. Although the film managed an average response in some regions, it still failed to fully restore confidence in the director’s comeback potential. Because of that, insiders say Srinu Vaitla is putting enormous effort into ensuring George Krish succeeds and re-establishes him as a commercially viable filmmaker.
At the same time, Sharwanand’s career also remains in an interesting phase. The actor scored a big success earlier this year with Nari Nari Naduma Murari, but his later release Biker was a commercial failure at the box office.
His decision to work with Srinu Vaitla at this stage appears risky because the director currently carries very little credibility among younger audiences.
However, some within the industry feel that a successful reinvention from Srinu Vaitla could still work if he updates his comedy style and storytelling approach for today’s audiences. Top production house Mythri Movie Makers is reportedly backing the project, which indicates that the makers still see commercial potential in the combination.
Now, the biggest question surrounding George Krish is whether Srinu Vaitla can truly reinvent himself after years of failures and whether Sharwanand’s gamble on a faded director will eventually pay off.
