The trend with critically acclaimed films is that the performance of these movies is very strong in the US whereas they appear a little bit weak in the local market, that is the two Telugu states. But in the case of Guru, despite everything else remaining constant the box office performance is surprisingly in reverse.

Guru has got fantastic reviews, but the performance of the film is quite surprising to the trade. The US collections of the sports drama are weak with only $58K so far. But in the Telugu states, Guru had a splendid opening with over two and a half crores on the opening day. For the limited release and genre, this is an excellent number.
The reason for this reversal is seen as substantial promotions locally. In the Telugu states, there was good anticipation on Guru compared to the US which was dependent on the reviews. However, despite the good reviews, the lack of growth from premieres is shocking. Let us see if there is an improvement in the coming days.
