Is it fair to ask a star hero without a second half?

Suriya-gautham-menonTamil star hero Suriya walked out of Goutham Menon’s project quoting the reason of failing to come up with the bound script of the project. That created quite a buzz and had a negative impact on the film maker who was left to suffer from lack of finances and corporate companies backed off from his project.

Goutham Menon justifies himself saying that he shot ‘Khakha Khakha (remade as ‘Gharshana’ in Telugu) and Varanam Ayiram (dubbed as ‘Surya s/o Krishnan’ in Telugu) with Suriya without bound script for the full movie. The first half was narrated to him and the second half was later developed depending how the movie is turning out to be.

Coming to Suriya’s point of view, he is a star hero and fans lay certain expectations on him. In the initial stages he might have taken risk even with half baked scripts which fortunately converted to superhit films. But at this juncture of his career, can he gamble deciding to go on with a project with just the first half?

Goutham Menon says, even a universal star like Kamal Haasan didn’t ask for the second half for ‘Veteyadu Vilayadu’ (dubbed as ‘Raghavan’ in Telugu) and asked him go on with whatever he has in hand. That might be the case sometimes when they choose scripts on instinct. But it cannot be the case always. Both Suriya and Goutham Menon might be right in their own arguments.
