Jailer 2 had its share of whistles, celebrations and Rajinikanth mania in theatres. The film reportedly crossed the RS 800 crore mark worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Tamil film. Now, Muthuvel Pandian is heading to Prime Video on November 12. The question is whether the film can pull the same kind of audience on OTT or not.
Nelson Dilipkumar brought Rajinikanth back as Muthuvel Pandian, surrounded him with a star-studded cast and added Anirudh’s music to the mix. The combination worked at the box office, with several scenes becoming moments of celebration for fans. But recreating that atmosphere on OTT is a different challenge.
OTT is a different game, though. There will be no massive first-day fan celebrations or the atmosphere of watching Rajinikanth with hundreds of fans in a theatre. Viewers can pause, skip or even revisit their favourite scenes from the comfort of their homes. That makes the digital response an interesting test for the sequel.
At the same time, the OTT release opens the doors to viewers who missed the theatrical run. The film will stream in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi across more than 240 countries and territories.
Jailer 2 has already had its big moment at the box office. Now, the question is whether Muthuvel Pandian can become the most-watched guest in homes this November.
