From Completion to Confusion: 100-Cr Disaster Loading?

Jayam Ravi in Genie film update

The shooting of Jayam Ravi’s long-delayed film Genie, directed by Bhuvanesh Arjunan, has been completed. However, the film’s theatrical release remains uncertain. Financial issues are said to be the main reason behind the delay.

Insider reports suggest that the makers were unhappy after watching the first cut of Genie. Vels Film International was reportedly disappointed with the output. There were even talks of shelving the film due to quality concerns.

Things changed after the first single Abdi Abdi gained strong traction online. Following its viral response, the makers are now reconsidering the release. An official update is expected soon, according to industry sources.

Meanwhile, reports claim that Genie was made on a massive budget of around Rs 100 crores. This has triggered debate among trade trackers on social media. Many feel Jayam Ravi’s current market may not support such a high-budget venture.

Some critics have also questioned Vels Film International’s investment choice. They argue the same budget could have funded several content-driven films. Instead, they feel it was risky to spend heavily on one uncertain project.

Krithi Shetty entered Kollywood with three films in quick succession. These include Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar, Jayam Ravi’s Genie, and Pradeep Ranganathan’s Love Insurance Kompany (LIK). With Vaa Vaathiyaar failing and Genie facing doubts, LIK appears crucial for her career.

As of now, there is no official confirmation on Genie’s release. All current discussions are based on social media speculation. It remains unclear when the film will release and if it can recover from its financial challenges.
