It has become a trend to orchestrate cinematic universes to milk on the sequel hype and make merry at the box office. One such attempt in Bollywood is ‘War’ franchise. After the success of the first part, the makers orchestrated the second part and it will have Tollywood star Jr NTR in an important role.
As per the latest updates from Bollywood media portals, NTR will play an Indian RAW agent in War 2 and he will further have a standalone film of his own, apart from having cameo appearances in other parts of War franchise films. This opens up new avenues for him in Bollywood.
However, first and foremost, the Tollywood audience are not very accustomed to these spy actioners more so, when they come from Bollywood directors. While NTR doing one solitary film is alright, him getting roped into the universe is not likely to be welcomed by fans either.
Firstly, NTR is a rooted mass hero here. There are certain expectations on his films in the Telugu market. At the same time, Bollywood has a different idea of him, and their way of catering to their audience is different. This mismatch can prove costly if NTR continues to fo these universe films.
In Bollywood, cameos of superstars might be common but here, superstars enjoy demigod statuses and they have a legacy to carry. Doing such cameos in Bollywood films is not the right way forward for NTR at this point in time.
While it is true that this universe might open a new avenue for Tarak in Bollywood and increase his market, he has a bigger stake in the Telugu market. If he parallelly steps on two ships – one being Bolly universe and the other being Telugu films, the results could get unpredictable. So, this idea of NTR in a new Bolly cinema universe could potentially be treated like bad news.
