In just 7 days, Prabhas’ sci-fi magnum opus Kalki 2898 AD will hit theaters on June 27. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film also features Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan.

Sri Lakshmi Movies, known for distributing Pushpa in Tamil Nadu, has officially acquired the theatrical distribution rights for Kalki 2898 AD in the state.

After Baahubali’s blockbuster business in Tamil Nadu, rarely any Telugu film did well.

Prabhas’ last few films like Adipurush and Salaar did disappointing business in Tamil Nadu. Adipurush didn’t even cross 5 crores gross in Tamil Nadu, while Salaar grossed around 20 crores.

Now, all eyes are on Kalki 2898 AD, which has a break-even target of 22 crores, meaning it needs to gross around 40 crores to be successful.

This is a huge target for a Telugu film in Tamil Nadu.

However, the presence of Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan in the cast brings hope that his immense popularity will attract a large audience to the theaters.

However, there is a history of Tamil audiences intentionally rejecting even good Telugu films, as they prefer not to see Telugu stars flourish in their market.

Some speculations suggest that this trend might continue, with a potential negative buzz on social media from the Tamil audience who haven’t even seen Kalki 2898 AD.

Despite this, there is optimism that Kalki 2898 AD will break this trend.
