There was once a time when Surya was regarded as the adopted son of Telugu land as such as the patronage for his films here in the Telugu states. But that is not even remotely the case now as none of his films are working.
However, the case of Surya’s latest film Karuppu is proving to be different. This film is currently on a surprisingly decent opening surge at the global box office.
According to the latest box office reports, this film has opened in the vicinity of ₹25 crore at the global market on the opening day.
This might sound as an ordinary number for a star as big as Surya with so much legacy behind him. But comparatively none of his films have opened at least on this level in the recent past, which makes the Karuppu number all the more appealing to his fans.
Surya is a hard-working and committed actor, and that is beyond doubt, but the choice of films and the outcomes of the same have been very restrictive for him of late.
The contribution from the Telugu states also has been arguably decent for this film. But the crucial point here is going to be to upload the momentum over the weekend.
The film has a strongly inclined musical style from Sai Abhyankar which works fairly well. But the relatively weak word of mouth might have a detrimental effect on the whole film. It will all come down to Surya’s acceptance amongst the audience at this point.
