Suriya’s latest commercial entertainer Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, was released in theatres on May 15 and has generated significant attention at the box office. While the film received mixed reviews from critics, it appears to have connected well with a section of the audience.
Many viewers responded positively to the film’s mass moments, elevation sequences, and comedy portions. As a result, Karuppu enjoyed a strong theatrical run and emerged as one of the most talked-about Tamil releases of the year.
The Karuppu team recently announced that the film has crossed the ₹300 crore mark at the global box office. The reported milestone has further strengthened Suriya’s position in the industry after a challenging phase in his career.
Following the success of Karuppu, Suriya is preparing for the release of Vishwanath and Sons, directed by Venky Atluri. The film completed shooting before the release of Karuppu, and the makers have officially scheduled its theatrical release for August 14.
Apart from that project, Suriya had earlier announced his 47th film with director Jithu Madhavan. According to reports, production is progressing steadily, with a significant portion of the shoot already completed.
The success of Karuppu has also sparked discussions about Suriya’s future remuneration. Industry reports suggest that the actor could command a higher salary for his upcoming projects following the film’s strong box-office performance.
Trade observers have noted that Suriya reportedly adjusted his remuneration during a difficult period following the performances of Kanguva and Retro. With Karuppu emerging as a major success, speculation has naturally increased about his market value and future earnings.
At the same time, some industry experts believe that remuneration decisions should be based on sustained box-office consistency rather than a single successful film. They argue that producers often evaluate long-term performance before committing to significantly higher compensation.
However, there has been no official confirmation regarding Suriya’s remuneration for future projects. Most discussions currently remain within industry circles and trade reports.
What is clear is that Karuppu has provided Suriya with an important commercial success and renewed momentum. The focus now shifts to whether he can build on this achievement with Vishwanath and Sons and his upcoming collaborations in the years ahead.
