Lenin is turning into exactly the kind of success Akhil Akkineni desperately needed. After opening to mixed-to-decent reviews, the film has shown strong growth on Day 2, putting it firmly on track to become the biggest commercial success of his career.
The clearest sign is the audience trend. On BookMyShow, ticket sales jumped from 191K on Day 1 to 261K on Day 2, registering an impressive 36% growth. Such a jump is usually seen only when positive word of mouth is driving footfalls. Trade reports also suggest that B and C centres performed significantly better on Saturday, indicating that the film is connecting well with the mass audience.
The Nizam territory has responded strongly as well. Lenin collected around Rs. 4.11 crores gross on Day 2, taking its two-day Nizam total to Rs. 7.33 crores gross.
Overseas, too, the film has delivered a pleasant surprise. In North America, it is heading towards a $160K second day, taking the two-day total to around $450K (Rs. 4.27 crores). After collecting $287K through premieres and Day 1, Saturday has become Akhil‘s biggest Day 2 ever in the region.
According to trade estimates, Lenin grossed around Rs. 13-14 crores worldwide on Day 2, taking its two-day total to approximately Rs. 27 crores. With the worldwide breakeven target estimated at Rs. 45-50 crore gross, the film has already recovered well over 50% of its theatrical business in just two days.
Trade now expects Lenin to finish its opening weekend at around Rs. 38 crores worldwide gross. If it posts a steady hold from Monday onwards, breakeven by the end of the first week looks well within reach, with the second weekend likely to push it into the profit zone for producers and buyers.
More importantly, Lenin is achieving something Akhil’s recent films could not: rebuilding audience confidence. After the disastrous Agent and a three-year gap, he needed more than just a decent opening. He needed strong word of mouth and genuine goodwill. Going by the current trend, the film is delivering both, with Akhil’s performance also earning appreciation.
For Akhil, this is shaping up to be more than just a box office success. It looks increasingly like the comeback that could finally redefine his career.
