Superstar Mahesh Babu has joined hands with legendary filmmaker SS Rajamouli for the much-awaited mythological action-adventure film Varanasi. Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra plays the female lead, while Prithviraj Sukumaran appears as the villain. The film is currently progressing at a brisk pace with continuous shooting schedules.
Adding further weight to the cast, versatile actor Prakash Raj is playing a crucial role in the film. He recently confirmed his involvement and shared his excitement after completing an important shooting schedule on X.
On Tuesday, Prakash Raj described the experience as creatively fulfilling and said the role satisfied the hungry actor within him. He expressed gratitude toward Rajamouli, Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, calling the collaboration exhilarating. He said he is eagerly waiting to resume the next schedule.
Prakash Raj shares a long and successful association with both Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu. He previously appeared in Rajamouli’s Vikramarkudu in 2006, nearly twenty years ago, and his combination with Mahesh Babu has delivered several films, starting from Rajakumarudu to the recent Guntur Kaaram. Industry talk suggests that Prakash Raj may be seen as Mahesh Babu’s father in Varanasi, though the makers have not officially confirmed this detail.
Director Rajamouli recently revealed that the film has already been in production for nearly a year and will continue shooting for another seven to eight months. During an interaction with Hollywood director James Cameron, Rajamouli hinted at the film’s massive scale and long term vision. Reports also suggest that Varanasi is being planned with IMAX presentation in mind.
The film is produced by K L Narayana under the Durga Arts banner, with Oscar winning composer MM Keeravani providing the music. Varanasi is shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic events in Indian cinema, with a planned release in the summer of 2027.
