The finance department of Andhra Pradesh government is insisting on some austerity measures to reign unnecessary expenditure. The department had earlier instructed the senior officials against using costly flight travel in the last minute, using luxury cars, staying in 5 star accommodation when going to Vijayawada and taking up unnecessary abroad tours.

IAS Babus and other higher government officials reportedly did not take the oral instructions very seriously and so the finance department is planning to bring out a G.O. bringing austerity measures officially. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is also planning to be model to his officials. Naidu is planning to pursue his South Korea tour planned towards the end of the year, only if there are solid proposals of investments.
According to official estimates, more than Rs 45 Crore was spent on transport and accommodation of officers and ministers over the last one year. Another Rs 15 crore was spent on foreign tours undertaken by them. Some officials have been found to be spending Rs 15,000 per day on luxury cars.
