Nani’s comments about women wearing traditional braids at the Bengaluru press meet of The Paradise took an interesting turn after a reporter questioned him about the practicality of the look.
While talking about his Jada look in the film, Nani recalled that when he was studying, girls commonly used to wear two long braids. He observed that these days very few women wear their hair that way and added that, in his opinion, girls look more beautiful in braids than with their hair left loose. He also spoke about how braiding the hair could help reduce hair fall.
The reporter then raised an interesting point. Nani can simply wear a wig for the film, but is it fair to expect women to actually wear such a hairstyle in real life?
That question led to a different response from Nani. He acknowledged that wearing long braids is not as easy as it looks, especially when it is accompanied by traditional accessories such as earrings, nose rings and other jewellery.
Nani said experiencing the look for The Paradise made him realise how difficult it can be to carry all of it. He went on to express his respect for women who wear such hairstyles and accessories, appreciating the effort involved.
That made the conversation less about whether women should wear braids and more about the effort behind the traditional look. Nani’s own Jada transformation for The Paradise gave him a chance to experience that difficulty himself.
The Jada look has already become one of the talking points around the film, with Nani taking a very different appearance for his character. What began as a simple observation about an old-school hairstyle ultimately turned into Nani acknowledging and appreciating the women who have been carrying such looks for years.
