Post the phenomenal success of Geetha Govindam, the equations had massively changed in the second league which comprises of stars like Nani, Naga Chaitanya, Ram, Varun Tej, Sai Dharam Tej, Nithiin, Sharwanand and others. Nani’s position at the top was questioned because he has been failing to score a big hit after Middle Class Abbayi.
The summer of 2019 was seen as the right time to see a few changes. All the stars of the second league had a release each. The Ram and Vijay Deverakonda starrers were earlier supposed to arrive in May but eventually have come out in July with the same gap.
Now, taking a look at these new set of releases from the different stars, it is clear that Nani has remained at the top with no change in his position. With Gang Leader coming up next under Vikram K Kumar’s direction, there is nothing to worry unless it totally drops the ball.
Vijay Deverakonda has got a good opening using the goodwill among the audience, but it not likely to be repeated with a similar film, again. The next project becomes crucial in this regard. However, the name Kranthi Madhav doesn’t exude confidence currently. We need to wait for a proper teaser to make an educated guess.
Ram and Naga Chaitanya have gained the most, but the lack of clarity on the upcoming films and a clear path ahead is going to affect the former. As far as the latter is considered, he has these gaining moments from time to time but squanders the momentum with poor subject selection in between. A Sekhar Kammula film is the right choice. Let’s see if he can build consistency.
