It is known that Mubin Rauf, director of the movie ‘Aromalinte Aadhyathe Pranayam’ and others approached the High Court of Kerala asking a ban on film reviews in blogs and YouTube videos for 48 hours from the day of the film’s release.
The Amicus Curiae (Advisor to the court) submitted a report on the case regarding the petition to stop reviews for 2 days after a film’s release.
The argument from the petitioners is that bloggers and YouTubers are spreading negative trends on films and affecting their prospects. The court called for a hearing on this case and asked for a response from the central government to take an affirmative decision.
However, the court had also observed that even with negative reviews, certain films had fared well in theaters and said the audience had grown smarter and not paying too much heed to negative reviews.
The court is yet to pass judgment on the possibility of bringing a new order that would restrict reviews on films for 48 hours. If this is passed, it could bring a reformative change in the film review industry in Kerala.
