Dhanush’s Big Gamble: Caught Between Rajini and Ramayana

The shooting of Dhanush’s anticipated Om directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy, is nearing its final stages and the team has officially announced that the film will hit the screens on October 16th as a Dussehra special.

Even though the makers of Om were the first ones to lock the Dussehra release slot, the Jailer 2 team suddenly announced the release of their film on October 15th, creating trouble for Om.

Once the Jailer 2 team locked the Dussehra release slot, sources suggested that the makers of Om were trying to postpone the film to Diwali to avoid clashing with Jailer 2.

Also, director Rajkumar Periyasamy in a recent interview confirmed that due to production delays, the release of Om might get postponed. However, surprisingly, in the recently released special glimpse of Mammootty from the film, the makers of Om mentioned the release date as October 16th without any changes.

Consequently, this triggered a lot of confusion about whether the film is releasing as planned and clashing with Jailer 2 on Dussehra.

In this scenario, fresh reports claim that Om is releasing on October 16th as planned and there are no changes to the release date. Reportedly, the makers of Om tried to postpone the release to Diwali, but because the highly anticipated pan-Indian film Ramayana is releasing across over 6,000 screens worldwide, it could heavily affect Om’s overseas and other-state collections. Hence, the makers of Om have stuck to the planned release date and are ready to face the clash with Jailer 2 over the Dussehra weekend.

In response to these recent reports, some Dhanush fans feel that the makers of Om have made a wrong move. They feel Jailer 2 is a huge pan-Indian film from Kollywood and clashing with it is a suicidal move.

They claim that instead of choosing festival release slots and clashing with biggies, the makers of Om should opt for a solo release and choose a better date in late November or December.

Additionally, they feel Om is one of the best-promoted Dhanush films in recent times and instead of clashing with Jailer 2 or Ramayana on Diwali and wasting its potential, the team should choose a proper release date.

Ultimately, as of now, everything is set for a clash between Om and Jailer 2 over the Dussehra weekend and it remains to be seen which film will emerge as the winner.
