Sivakarthikeyan recently attended the grand audio launch of his film Parasakthi in Chennai. During the event, he explained the reason behind the film’s Pongal release. That clarification has now triggered intense discussion on social media.
Sivakarthikeyan said Parasakthi was always planned for a Pongal release. At that time, Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, was expected to release during Diwali. When Jana Nayagan shifted to Pongal, he reached out to its producer and also spoke to Vijay’s manager, Jagadish.
He added that Jagadish later spoke to Vijay about the call. According to Sivakarthikeyan, Vijay responded positively and said there was no issue with both films releasing together. He said Vijay felt both films could succeed during the Pongal season.
Many people accepted this explanation and felt there was nothing wrong. You also see opinions saying an actor does not always control a film’s release date. For them, the situation looked practical rather than personal.
Others, however, pointed to an earlier example. In 2022, Sivakarthikeyan postponed his film Don from March 25 to May 13. That move avoided a clash with RRR, directed by Rajamouli, to protect its Tamil Nadu box office.
Because of that decision, some now question his stance. They argue that if goodwill truly existed, Parasakthi could have stayed with its January 14 release. Instead, the release moved to January 10, leading to a direct clash with Jana Nayagan.
These voices feel Sivakarthikeyan is trying to justify his position to Kollywood audiences. They also point out that Jana Nayagan is Vijay’s final film, which adds emotional weight to the clash and fuels fan reactions.
The situation has grown uglier in recent days. A viral video showed Vijay fans tearing down Parasakthi banners while waiting to buy Jana Nayagan tickets. This incident shocked many within the Kollywood community.
You now see growing concern that this hostility could spill into theatres once the films release. Many fear further quarrels and chaos if tensions continue unchecked during the festive season.
