Ram Charan’s Peddi is currently running in theatres and still trying to achieve breakeven in several areas. However, the version audiences watched on the big screen may not be the final version of the film. If the latest industry buzz is accurate, OTT viewers could get a significantly extended cut featuring several deleted scenes that never made it into theatres.
The theatrical version already had a runtime of more than 3 hours. After release, the makers reportedly trimmed some portions, particularly scenes involving Janhvi Kapoor’s character, following severe backlash from audiences.
Now, reports suggest director Buchi Babu Sana is preparing a much longer version for the film’s OTT release. According to industry buzz, the runtime could be extended to around 3 hours and 25 minutes, with several deleted scenes being restored. Most of the additional footage is said to focus on emotional relationships that were cut short during the final editing process.
One of the biggest additions reportedly involves scenes between Ram Charan and Jagapathi Babu. Sources claim Buchi Babu had originally filmed several emotional moments designed to deepen the relationship between their characters, but those scenes were eventually removed to keep the theatrical runtime under control.
Interestingly, industry reports suggest Jagapathi Babu himself was unhappy about those scenes being cut. However, by the time he raised his concerns, the theatrical version had already been locked and released.
The makers are also reportedly planning to restore additional scenes featuring Ram Charan and Shiva Rajkumar.
By adding nearly 20 minutes of fresh content, the team hopes to attract not only viewers who skipped the film in theatres but also fans who have already watched it and are curious about the deleted footage.
However, the expanded version may also raise an important question. If these restored scenes genuinely improve the emotional depth of the film, many viewers will naturally wonder why they were removed from the theatrical version in the first place. Stronger emotional content could have enhanced the cinema experience and potentially helped the film receive more positive word of mouth instead of the mixed response it ultimately received.
Netflix has acquired the digital streaming rights for Peddi for a base price of Rs. 55 crores. Industry sources also claim that the deal includes additional payments if the film achieves certain box office targets. If Peddi performs better in theatres, the makers could reportedly receive more money from the OTT deal.
According to current speculation, Peddi could premiere on Netflix in the first week of July.
