Peddi’s Janhvi Controversy: Real Lesson to be Learnt?

Peddi controversy discussion

Peddi is now running in theatres. The first few days did not go so well for the film due to the backlash surrounding the character of Janhvi Kapoor. The majority was dissatisfied with the excessive focus of the cameras on her waist and midriff.

While director Buchi Babu Sana has apologized for the same with a statement, it has once again raised a new debate about why the filmmakers are unable to understand what audiences want to watch.

The biggest question that is being asked today is whether the cast and crew were aware of everything that was recorded on camera during the shooting. Moreover, some people have questioned why a superstar like Ram Charan allowed such things to happen. The same thing was asked of everyone else involved with the movie.

Online users claimed that even if someone had raised their voice, they were ignored or were forced to keep their mouths shut in some manner. The major issue that happens during filmmaking is that everyone starts praising the work that has been done so far without analysing anything. This creates a misconception for the director, who believes that he has made a masterpiece.

The problem can be avoided in future films. The makers need to have a separate team, similar to Aamir Khan, who are not a part of the cast or crew, and can give an honest opinion about the movie.

In the case of pan-India films, the makers need to take care of the fact that they are making a movie that will be watched by people of every culture. It is this approach that can save them from any criticism, specifically the use of glamour in any particular sequence. Moreover, it is not important to focus on a heroine’s waist just because the movie is made for the mass audience.

The ongoing situation is expected to bring some changes in filmmaking, giving more space to a heroine’s character instead of more focus on her glamour. Only time will tell who has learned a lesson from the incident.
