Legendary director Mani Ratnam is coming up with his dream project, Ponniyin Selvan. The film stars a plethora of stars that include Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Parthiban, Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, and others. The Tamil trade experts are touting this film to be the Baahubali of Kollywood.
Recently the first-look posters of Vikram and Karthi were released. Chiyaan Vikram will be seen as the Chola crown prince Aditya Karikalan, the one who defeated the Pandyas. Karthi will play Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan, a loyal to the Chola throne. The film is being made on a huge scale.
But the hype for this ambitious venture in Tollywood circles is completely missing. There was a time when Mani Ratnam films would be most-awaited by the Telugu audience. But due to his recent spate of films like Kadali, Cheliya, and Nawab, which failed to impress the Tollywood audience, this film is not getting the required attention.
Because of the film’s high budget, the film has to do good business in Telugu as well to recover its costs, but since the hype is zero, the going will be tough for this Mani Ratnam epic drama.
