Puri’s films rewrote the definition of a film hero from being a Sri Rama Chandrudu (Lord Rama) to the menacing and corrupt Daya in ‘Temper’. Puri’s previous superhit film Mahesh’s ‘Businessman’ too had the hero character with negative shades who says that underworld (mafia) is necessary to maintain law and order.
With NTR’s Daya’s role, he made a hero out of a totally corrupt police officer transforming into a genuine one. Here more than the transformation, the corrupt police officer is attracting the audiences to theatres. The shocking revelation of negative shades of a protagonist in ‘Temper’ is working in favour of the movie.
Now, Mahesh’s fans want only Puri to direct Mahesh’s next project and Puri Jagannadh considers this as the biggest compliment in his life and bigger than the success. That’s one thing. But one of Mahesh’s fans tweets reveals the present trend amongst fans for negative characters.
One Anand who happens to be a die-hard fan of Mahesh tweeted reply to Puri’s tweets that he wants a complete negative character for Mahesh Babu like ‘Businessman’. At present, being noble and benevolent isn’t heroic anymore. A hero has to be shockingly very gory in discipline and menacingly attractive. What a transformation of hero image!
