“Guns & Gulaabs,” created by Raj & DK, known for OTT blockbuster series like “The Family Man 1& 2” and “Farzi,” offers a nostalgic journey into the pulpy masala era of black crime comedy.
There were huge expectations from the series because of the Raj & DK factor and also Dulquer Salmaan’s presence. The trailer also created a record on YouTube by garnering 80 Million views. But the series has turned out to be pretty mid.
The series maintains the creators’ signature style, but the plot isn’t exactly great. Though there are some engaging episodes in between, the overall experience isn’t exhilarating. The series lacks surprises and wow moments. It concludes satisfactorily in a lengthy finale, but overall, it suffers from bloatedness and predictability.
A web series in India succeeds only when it is engaging throughout. When the pace keeps dipping regularly, the usual Indian digital viewer is quick to hop on to some other show.
This series might be the first flop for OTT Kings Raj & DK. If they deliver one more such series, their credibility and standing in the OTT arena might take a serious beating.
