Netflix dropped the trailer for its latest documentary feature, Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli, on Monday. This documentary promises a deep dive into the life and career of the award-winning filmmaker, SS Rajamouli, as seen through the eyes of those who have collaborated with him and admired his work.
The trailer features familiar stars like NTR, Prabhas, Ram Charan and Karan Johar praising Rajamouli’s genius. However, it takes an unexpected turn with a cameo by James Cameron, the legendary director of some of the most successful films in cinema history, who shares his admiration for Rajamouli.
While the documentary aims to celebrate Rajamouli’s achievements, it has sparked huge criticism from fans.
The major gripe is the dubbing choices for the Telugu version. In this version, the voices of Jr NTR, Ram Charan, and Prabhas have been dubbed by other artists, which fans find artificial and fake without making any impact.
However, the English version retains the original voices of these actors. Fans have taken to social media, tagging Netflix handles and criticizing this decision as a major blunder.
They argue that Netflix should have made more effort to get the original actors to dub for themselves in Telugu.
SS Rajamouli’s fame skyrocketed in Hollywood following the success of RRR, and James Cameron’s endorsement only solidified his international acclaim.
For years, Indian commercial cinema has struggled to attract audiences outside the diaspora. However, with RRR, Rajamouli has galvanized global audiences like never before.
The Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli trailer begins predictably but soon promises something unique. It explores not just the brilliance of the man behind blockbusters like Baahubali and RRR but also the challenges faced by his frequent collaborators while working with him.
Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli is set to premiere on Netflix on August 2.
