Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is all set to revive his ambitious film, Karna. The film was supposed to be produced by Excel Entertainment. However, the company decided to step back from the film due to budget-related issues.
As per the latest update from Rahul Raut of Peeping Moon, Rakeysh has now approached Jio Studios and Applause Entertainment, and additionally met Junglee Pictures. While a collaboration is yet to be confirmed, the film is supposed to go on floors in the next few months.

The film is reported to be made in two parts, and its estimated budget is said to be Rs. 600 crores. The big budget could be one of the reasons that the producers are not willing to take responsibility for the film. A particular studio also requested Rakeysh to rethink the budget.
Furthermore, Rakeysh is aiming to bring Suriya in the lead, making the superstar’s first Hindi film as a solo hero. However, the entire film is a dream that might take a few more years to complete. There are many reasons for that.

The current situation of the film industry is not so good. The biggest films are flopping at the box office, and compared to what we saw before the COVID-19 pandemic, there are only 4-5 films that have turned out to be big blockbusters or big hits in a year.
Considering the above-mentioned situation, no one will invest Rs. 600 crores easily, as it is very hard for a Hindi film nowadays to make a mark at the box office with collections of Rs. 800 crores or more. The scale has to be similar to Pathaan, Jawan, Animal, or Stree 2, which can help the film become successful.

Although Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has made good films like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Rang De Basanti, his films are aimed at the multiplex audiences most of the time.
Karna is undoubtedly a good choice for Rakeysh to attract single-screen audiences. However, he needs to create something out-of-the-box and different if he is willing to come out of his comfort zone and offer something new.
