2000 Cr Film Sold For 250 Cr Before Release?

Ramayana theatrical rights deal

Bollywood is currently producing Ramayana, which happens to be one the costliest projects in the making in Indian Cinema. The stakes are pretty high on this Ranbir Kapoor film, which is being produced for Diwali release.

The first part of this film will be releasing in theatres during this Diwali season, while the next part will be releasing next Diwali. This is an elaborate release plan that is in motion for this film.

Coming to the topic, the latest reports regarding the trade are suggesting that this film has secured the theatrical deal for its release, and it will be released across India by Dharma productions.

But the interesting thing here is that Dharma productions have reportedly paid only ₹250 crore for the India release rights of this film. This might sound like a decent number on paper, but is against what was initially projected by the producer.

The producer of this film had initially said the two parts of Ramayana are costing in the vicinity of ₹4000 crore together. This would mean that the first part alone perhaps have costed over Rs 2000 crore. In that case, selling the theatrical rights for all of India for just ₹250 crore makes little financial sense.

But this is a matter of internal scrutiny and we cannot point our fingers till the producer confirms the same, but as of now, even social media users are confused about the trade numbers of this film.
