After the disastrous results of a few remake films in Tollywood in the recent past, it was expected that this remake trend would be done and dusted with. Especially after the embarrassing result of Megastar’s Bholaa Shankar, the practice of making remakes was assumed to be over forever. But it seems the horror of remake films has come back to haunt Tollywood.
This week’s release Kotabommali PS is a remake of a Malayalam film Nayattu. The makers claimed that they made many changes to the original but the promotional material says that it is too close to its original.
Nagarjuna is coming up with Naa Saami Ranga which is said to be a remake of again a Malayalam film, Porinju Mariyam Jose. After a spate of debacles, Nagarjuna is hunting for a solid hit and he is banking on a remake. The makers believe that not many have seen the original and hence the remake factor will not affect Naa Saami Ranga.
Pawan Kalyan’s next Ustaad Bhagath Singh is rumored to be an adapted version of Atlee’s Theri starring Vijay. The film is directed by remake specialist Harish Shankar.
Reports are going on in the industry that a medium-range hero is teaming up with a big director for the remake of 2018 Ajay Devgan’s film Raid. The hero recently witnessed a big-budget flop and is now looking to walk on a safe path by doing a remake. But doing a remake is far riskier these days than doing a straight film.
Let’s hope better sense prevails in the industry and heroes, directors, writers, and producers, come up with original ideas and stories rather than treading the path of remakes which at this point is considered suicidal.
