Suriya’s mass commercial entertainer film Karuppu directed by RJ Balaji was released in theatres on May 15th and emerged as a massive blockbuster success, collecting more than 300 crores worldwide.
Although the film received severe backlash from netizens after its OTT release, Karuppu is still considered the biggest successful film of this year in Kollywood and it helped Suriya make a solid comeback.
Since Karuppu ended with a lead for its sequel, initially many people believed that RJ Balaji would start shooting for the sequel immediately. However, RJ Balaji clarified in an interview that he has an idea for the sequel, but it will not be his immediate film and that he might reunite with Suriya once again with a different script.
Later, after Karuppu faced severe trolls following its OTT release, people made an assumption that RJ Balaji might drop his idea to make the sequel and perhaps might not even collaborate with Suriya in the future.
But surprisingly, RJ Balaji recently made an update regarding Karuppu 2 in an interview. He stated that he is still soaking in the success of Karuppu, but he claimed that he will definitely collaborate with Suriya again. Furthermore, he mentioned that he’ll start thinking about making the sequel for Karuppu after a few months and right now he is completely blank about it.
This statement from RJ Balaji is triggering mixed responses from the audience. While some feel that RJ Balaji should definitely do Karuppu 2 and believe that he would deliver the sequel even better than the original, others are sharing negative responses.
They claim that the success of Karuppu itself was a fluke and Suriya should not collaborate with RJ Balaji in the future. Also, they suggest that RJ Balaji should drop his idea of making a sequel to Karuppu.
Ultimately, we have to wait and watch whether a sequel to Karuppu happens and if it does, how it will take shape in the future and whether it emerges as a successful venture similar to the original part.
