The Malayalam film industry has been rocked in recent days by the release of the Hema Committee report, which revealed various complaints from women in the industry about the sexual harassment they have faced.
The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), a group established by women working in the film industry, has been actively speaking out against sexual crimes in Malayalam cinema and fighting for the rights and safety of women in the industry. WCC played a major role in the revealing of the Hema Committee report.

Meanwhile, a similar group called The Voice of Women was established in the Telugu film industry in 2019. Through that group, various complaints about sexual crimes against women in Tollywood were addressed.
Now, noted female celebrities of Tollywood, like Samantha and Nandini Reddy, are urging the government of Telangana to release the sub-committee report on the complaints received.

Taking to social media, Samantha and Nandini Reddy shared a note that read, “We, the women of the Telugu film industry, welcome the Hema Committee report and applaud the persistent efforts of WCC in Kerala, which has led the way to this moment.”
“Following the lead of WCC, The Voice of Women, a support group for women in TFI, was created in 2019. We hereby urge the Telangana government to publish the submitted sub-committee report on sexual harassment, which can help frame government and industry policies to establish a safe working environment for women in TFI,” the note further added.

With top celebrities in the industry requesting to release the report, it remains to be seen if the Telangana government will release the submitted report. If it does, it might be as impactful as the Hema Committee report, opined netizens on social media.
