Not enjoying a film in the theaters is one thing, but not enjoying or acknowledging the success of a film is a different thing. A section of Tamil cinema followers fall in the second category as they are absolutely gutted by the box office acclaim that Animal got despite the rather mixed reviews.
Their opinion is that Animal is a gore film that doesn’t deserve to be a box office hit. The root cause is of course the fact that a Telugu director shook Indian cinema with a non-spectacle or a non-conventional commercial film. The Tamil cinema space on social media always cries foul on Animal.
Now again, Sandeep Reddy Vanga has given yet another reason for the section of Tamil fans to cry as he was accorded the Dada Saheb Phalke award last night for “Best Director” for Animal.
Shortly after the news came out that Vanga won the award, Tamils started crying foul and saying he absolutely doesn’t deserve it.
“Bollywood audiences taste. #Animalpark will be more nudity and gory from Vanga. ” a Tamil netizen commented.
“Really their are spoiling name of Dada Saheb Phalke Award Worst ra dei ” another netizen commented.
Notably, this isn’t even the government-recognised Dada Saheb Phalke either and just a privately issued award so it’s no big deal anyway. But that isn’t stopping a section of Tamil fans from spitting venom on Vanga and Animal.
