Sandhya 70MM, the largest capacity theater in Telangana, was inaugurated on January 18, 1979. Over the years, it set records with many films including Toli Prema, which ran for 227 days, and Kushi, which became the highest-grossing film in the theater.

However, the theater’s future is now uncertain after a tragic incident during the Pushpa 2 premiere on December 4.

Hyderabad CP CV Anand has issued a show cause notice to Sandhya Theater, asking the management to explain their negligence and why their license should not be canceled. The theater has been given ten days to respond.

Reports revealed that the Chikkadpally police had earlier warned about the lack of proper security arrangements, especially if actors visited the theater, as the location is surrounded by restaurants and has no separate entry for women.

On the night of the Pushpa 2 premiere, the management allegedly failed to control the massive crowd.

The stampede, triggered when Allu Arjun arrived at the venue, resulted in the tragic death of a woman and left a young boy seriously injured. The lack of proper safety measures has drawn serious attention from authorities.

With investigations ongoing, Sandhya Theater now faces the risk of permanent closure. Its failure to ensure audience safety during such a major event has led to widespread criticism, putting an end to what was once a glorious legacy in Telangana’s cinema history.
