In a time when the adverse effects of smoking are well known, conscientious actors like Rajanikantha and Vijay have openly declared that they would not smoke on screen.

But it seems like their good deeds are causing problems for Rajani’s son in law Dhanush who have done quite a few smoking scenes. These scenes include clips in Mariyaan and Velai Illa Pattadhari and more recently in his latest film Maari, due to which Dhanush is drawing a lot of flak from his audiences.
Due to this, the actor is receiving lots of queries regarding social responsibility. Dhanush, however, has defended himself saying that scenes like this are the decisions of the directors and are not up to the actors. He further said that he doesn’t smoke off-screen and urged other to do the same.
